Kevin Elander is a licensed acupuncturist, certified Chinese herbalist and yoga instructor — practicing and teaching in Calgary. After receiving his Bachelor of Science
degree, Kevin went to Vancouver to study traditional Chinese medicine where he graduated from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in
1997.
Throughout his life Kevin has been an avid cyclist, runner and skier — competing at an international level in cycling.
His interest in health and fitness, combined with his chronically tight and injured body, eventually led him to yoga. With yoga in his life he found he could
run, ride, and pursue other activities with greater ease and less injuries. After practicing yoga for a few years, he studied to be a yoga instructor under a
number of different teachers including: David Swenson, Rochne White and Fiona Stang, as well as having practiced under Mark Darby, Rameen Peyrow and Manju
Jois. Kevin found Ashtanga yoga to be a challenging and invigorating practice that seemed to satisfy a variety of needs — providing an athletic workout yet
instilling a sense of calmness and balance.
Kevin and his wife Melissa spent more than two years living in Malawi, Africa where Kevin taught yoga to the expatriate community and Melissa managed a CIDA funded
development project. Since returning to Calgary, Melissa and Kevin have had two beautiful children, Grace and Ethan; and Kevin has been teaching Ashtanga and Vinyasa style yoga as
well as running his TCM practice.
